ACTS Guideline: The Importance of Follow Up

“Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do” Acts 15.36.
Paul instructed us to follow him as he followed Christ. Paul followed up constantly. He prayed for his contacts. He visited them. He wrote letters to them. He sent messengers to them. He received messengers from them. “I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain…for now we live, if ye stand fast in the faith…night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith” 1Thess.3.5,8,10.
Paul had a passion to win the lost, and, to lift up, strengthen, and encourage the saints.
So, what is the importance of following up consistently?
1. To gain a harvest, there must be ground preparation, seed planting, watering, fertilizing, weeding, then harvesting. All this is normal follow up activity. Follow up contact is normal harvest activity.
2. Without follow up, the prior work expended is often in vain.
3. Outreach without follow up can actually innoculate people with just enough light to confuse them and turn them permanently away from the things of God (2 Pet.2.20-22).
4. Failure to follow up is disasterous even in the natural business world. If salesmen made one contact and failed to follow up, not only would the company soon go bankrupt from lack of sales, it’s reputation for doing a disservice to it’s clients/prospects would preclude any possible success.
5. With proper follow up and establishment of converts in the Life Groups, the people will grow spiritually, the Word will multiply, and whole neighborhoods, cities, regions, and even countries can be evangelized by the exponential growth of the numbers of converts.

Ways Of Follow Up
1. By the church Follow Up Committee to give and receive “official” information eg. Name, address, church times, if need a ride, etc.
2. By the initial contact person to keep it on a person-to-person level.
3. By another team member to introduce them to the Life Group/Team system. Note: Depending on the make up of the Team and time schedules, etc., there might be a Team Member designated as the follow up person.
