Nicodemus
was a religious man who was very interested in Jesus. He came to Him at
night to find out more about Him.
Jesus
told Nicodemus, in the third chapter of John, that if he was going to see
the kingdom of God, he had to be born again. He explained to him that there
is a being born of water, into the fleshly realm, and there is being born
of the Spirit into the spirit realm. He explained that it is like the wind--you
can't see it, but you can see the results of it. The new birth happens
by the working of God's Spirit in your spirit.
He then explained that it is solely
the result of a person acting on the Word of God in faith. He gave the
example of the children of Israel who had sinned against God in the wilderness.
God gave them release from and cure from the resulting death of their sin,
by having Moses put a brass serpent on a pole and instructing the people
to simply look at that brass serpent in faith, and they would be saved
from their sin and it's penalty of death. Jesus related this to His own
death on the cross for the sin of all mankind. He showed that if a person
simply looks to His sacrifice in faith, then that person will not perish,
but have everlasting life.
He further explained that it is because
of the love of God for the world, for all mankind, that this gift of everlasting
life is given to all who will believe His word. He said that God does not
condemn the world for their sin, rather, He sent His only Son so that the
world, through Him, might be saved. He explained that the condemnation
is when we continue in our sin and darkness and refuse to come to the light
of Jesus Christ to be set free from sin.
Then He finishes up His lesson to
Nicodemus by telling him that those who are really honest with themselves
("he that doeth truth"), will come to the light and bare all, so that God
is allowed to do His perfect work in their life by His unseen Spirit.
What a gracious and complete explanation
to one who is hungry for God! And with the explanation He concludes it
with a loving invitation to Nicodemus to open his life to God in faith
and allow Him to do the spiritual work in him that needs to be done.
This is God's invitation to you, now.
The Spirit of God is present in all
the earth right now.
The Bible tells us that "all
have sinned and come short of the glory of God", and that the "wages
of sin is death" (Rom. 3. 23; 6. 23a). This is the condemnation,
that our sin separates us from our loving Father God in the spirit realm.
Life apart from that spiritual bond with Him is empty now, and if we should
die in such a state of separation from Him, our spirit would spend eternity
in hell because of our sin. And that's exactly why Jesus came and gave
Himself for you, taking your sin upon Himself and paying the penalty of
sin for you. He came, and has already done the work for you, so that right
now you can be born again and become a new creation in Him. Like the wind,
He does the work in you by the power of His unseen Spirit as you look to
His Word and receive His Word in faith.
The Bible says, "the wages of sin
is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord" (Rom. 6. 23). As you see Jesus, dying for your sin on the cross,
you see your peace with God. It is in the person and work of Jesus. He
did this for you, and offers you release from sin and all it's effects
of selfishness, sickness, and the death of eternal separation from God.
It is nothing you can earn in any way. It is simply the gift of God to
be received now, by faith in His unfailing Word.
Now, see Jesus. See that the work
of your deliverance is now done. See that God gives you the gift of new,
eternal life, now, because of what Jesus has done for you. The Bible says,
"whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2.
21). See Jesus, and His love for you, and "call upon Him" by telling Him
that you are giving Him your life right now. Ask Him to be the Lord, the
ruler of your life both now and forever.
This Jesus is the Lord over all. He
has done the work to provide you a complete salvation. The power of all
sin, all sickness, all satanic oppression, all poverty, and all things
that are not of the blessing of God--all is now destroyed in the Almighty
name of Jesus.
He is the Christ, the Anointed Messiah
/ Deliverer. When you come to Him and give Him your life, He takes your
sin away, and He puts His Spirit into you and upon you so that you are
clothed with the same supernatural Spirit of God that clothed Him when
He was in His flesh body on earth. How do you receive this abundance of
mercy and grace from Him?
Peter answered that on the day of
Pentecost. He said, "Repent [turn around and change your mind toward Christ,
to crown Him as Lord of your life], and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission [the putting away] of sins,
and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto
you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as
the Lord our God shall call" (Acts 2. 38, 39).
Have you looked to Jesus and received
His sacrifice for the payment of your sin? Yes? Have you given Him your
life, asking Him, inviting Him to be your Lord and Saviour both now and
forever? Yes? Then you have looked to Jesus like the sin-laden, snake-bitten
Israelites looked at that brass serpent on a pole. That's how you get born
again by the unseen Spirit of God. You look to Jesus in faith, and the
Word says you are born again.
You make your confession of the Lordship
of Jesus in your life by being baptized in water. Jesus Himself was baptized
by John the Baptist (Matt. 3. 13-17). When He was baptized, the Spirit
of God came upon Him in the same manner that you would see a bird coming
down and lighting on a person.
This is what Peter was talking about
on the day of Pentecost. When you come to Jesus and obey His Word, He births
you into His kingdom and baptizes you (immerses you) with His Spirit. The
new birth puts the life of God in you, and the baptism of the Spirit puts
His supernatural power for service upon you. This is the "promise of the
Father" that Peter spoke of on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2.38,39.
When you come to Jesus, He heals you
of your sickness and frees you from satanic bondages. He replaces hatred
with love, and He heals broken hearts and relationships.
He has purchased all this for you
already by laying down His own life. He paid the penalty of sin for you.
Now, He is arisen from the dead and is alive to impart His life, power,
and blessings unto you. Hear the good news. It is all in place for you,
now. Now, you can reach out in faith and take that which He offers you.
Receive God's gift to you! Now, rejoice in what God has done for you. Thank
Him, out loud, give Him praise. Tell Him that you receive all, now.
The Bible says, "With the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made to
salvation [manifest deliverance]" (Rom. 10. 10). As you live a life-style
of hearing and receiving God's Word by confessing it and acting upon it
with praise and thanksgiving, you are living the life of faith in Jesus
Christ. This is abiding in Christ. This is living in eternal life.
Now, live the life of love, not thinking
nor speaking evil of any man, and the continual presence of the Lord with
be with you and increase. In this way you will be blessed and be a blessing
in every way both now and forever. Amen.
"Seeing ye have purified your souls
in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren,
see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: being born again,
not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which
liveth and abideth forever...and this is the word which by the gospel is
preached unto you" (1 Peter 1. 22-25).
