Peace and Serenity

I started learning to fly June 13, 1973. I was twenty-three years old. I soloed on July 4, 1973, after 9.9 hours of instruction. I flew less than a hundred hours, but I enjoyed the time I spent flying. I would fly recreationally now, but it is so expensive. My time and money are for other things now. I have my mind on accomplishing certain things and not just flying around sightseeing. There is one thing in particular that I have enjoyed in flying. It was always good to get in the plane and leave the grit and grime of the world behind. It was a brief escape from everyday life to drink in the view of a perfect world. The overall view of the farmlands, forests, mountains and rivers all look perfect and serene. The towns are all clean and peaceful. You know that there is a lot of “busy-ness” in what you are looking at, but for these moments you are exempt from it all. Not even the slightest awareness of it. Then, as you take her up even higher, you get to drink in the puffy wonderland of some clouds. The world becomes even more “quiet” all around you. There is still a view of the earth, but the broken clouds are most enjoyable. Even though there is the steady hum of the motor, being among the clouds also gives a sense of serenity. Plus, at the higher altitudes, the air is cooler, which adds another dimension of peace and comfort. You can take off from a muggy, hot airport and climb high and enjoy the whole new cool, crisp atmosphere. Jesus said to pray “thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” That means we are to live on earth from a heavenly perspective. Jesus demonstrated that. There is no sin in heaven. Jesus lived a sinless life by faith in the Word and obedience to the Spirit of God. He gave us to example of how we can give ourselves to the Word and the Spirit of God, and we can live God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. There is no sickness in heaven. By faith in the Word and obedience to the Spirit, we can overcome sickness. In fact, everything we face can be met with repentance from our way, faith in the Word (faith in Jesus Christ), and obedience to the Spirit of God. By this we can be overcomers in one sense or another. By repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ, we can adopt the heavenly perspective that is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost, in the midst of all things. As we approach the final leg of our flight, the heavenly view tends to be even more important to us. Life is not to be stressed over. We can look at the over-all view, seeing Jesus, and hold the big picture. Flying in Him, there is peace and serenity.
