After 22 years of happy marriage, a long term illness, and the death of a spouse, I found myself single. I prayed, “Lord, if I am to be single the rest of my days that is fine; you give grace for that. But if you know there is a good companion out there for me, I don’t want to date and get into all that stuff. Guide me, and let’s get it on!” My focus was to do mission work that we had done before my spouse’s illness, so I contacted churches for speaking engagements to share my vision. This was to raise support to do short term mission trips to go preach the gospel. In that process I was told of a church in Benton that might be open to a visiting speaker. I contacted Pastor Barbara Allred of the Lighthouse Church of Benton for the possibility of a speaking engagement. I met a lady who had been single for about 25 years who was in love with Jesus and life, and who was full of the Spirit and life of God. I immediately knew I had found “a good thing” (Proverbs 18:22). For 80 days straight, I drove to Benton and we would sit and talk about everything concerning relationships and our lives. I started going to church at Lighthouse Church, and, we went to some movies and other public events together. We got to know each other in this way. At the end of those 80 days, we got married, and together we are carrying out the mission and mandate that God has given to carry out. Through the church there is a Rest Home Outreach, a Prison Outreach, and a Media Outreach, with more outreach on the horizon. We enjoy sharing Jesus and the life of God wherever we go. Our strengths and weaknesses bonded together forms a strong unit to accomplish what God has called us to do. The newly published website is www.lighthousechurchbenton.com. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6). God is absolutely faithful. If we ask in faith, trusting in his word, we will receive “a good thing”. For me, after the prayer and a process of time, I received my wife in 80 days from the time that I first met her.
