There are a lot of bird brains in the world but this one beats them all. I have randomly interviewed various people about these types, and everybody I have talked to say the same thing about them. It is really some pointless behavior going on in the group. Of course, in this day and age, pointless behavior barely gets a raised eyebrow. After all, “What is normal?” is the question that issues from a generation who has had the standard removed. But, enough ranting over such matters; we need to hear answers – back to the bird brain group. Have you ever noticed that it is only Cardinals that will fly at and peck at and do other things around your vehicle mirror? If the world population of birds all partook of such a pointless practice, I would conclude that all true bird brains are simply over fascinated with themselves. But no, this self brutalizing, exhausting practice seems to be confined only to our flashy red feathered fowl. I can’t say they are friends, for if you have just washed your car, after the red session, the vehicle has a generous splattering of white that needs to be washed off for gracious appearance.
Here’s the deal: Why is it that just Cardinals maintain this practice? I don’t understand. Am I going to lose sleep over this issue that I don’t understand? No. That thing will take care of itself. Life goes on while I work with those things that I do understand. There are things in the kingdom of God that we might not understand. We need not get hung up on those. We just need to focus on doing those things that we do understand. We can be open to learn things that are presently not understood, but in the now it is safe to simply trust God. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3: 5, 6). Some bird brains do things we just don’t understand. Our focus does not need to be on them, it needs to be on him, Jesus. Follow him through the power of the Holy Spirit. Then, as we follow him through the Spirit, what we need to understand, we will.
