Bomb Sniffer

I recently saw the movie on Netflix entitled “Megan Leavey.” This is a movie based on the true story of how marine Corporal Megan Leavey became the handler of the military working dog named “Rex.” The movie portrays how Megan and Rex were deployed to Iraq in 2005 and 2006. It shows the training required for a handler and the dog to be able to work together to become an effective “bomb sniffer,” thereby saving many American lives in war. It shows the obstacles that had to be overcome and the dangers of carrying out their mission. They were both wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED) in September of 2006, while she and Rex were locating buried explosive devices leading a U.S. Army patrol down a street in Ramadi, Iraq. In watching the movie, and seeing the training and obstacles involved in being an effective bomb sniffer that would save many lives, I was reminded of the words of Jesus. He said the kingdom of heaven is taken by “violence” and the “violent” take it by force (Matthew 11:12). If we are going to advance in the things of God so we become an instrument to save many lives, we have to get an attitude. We must be determined to accomplish the mission that needs to be accomplished. We will have to press through obstacles and receive training of the Lord. Sometimes those obstacles are impossibilities and the training is rigorous. God’s training does not pander to the flesh. His training puts the flesh to death so the life of God can shine through us through Jesus Christ. In the kingdom of God there are tools and weapons available to us to help us accomplish our mission successfully. We have the powerful, living Word of God that is like a two-edged sword that will cut away spiritual powers that oppose the gospel. As we believe, yield to, and are filled with the Spirit, we can pray with the spirit and pray with the understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15). By believing and yielding, we have supernatural manifestations of the Spirit in our life such as a word of wisdom, a word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues. All these tools and weapons are ours for use in the kingdom to save many lives. There are many obstacles to their operation. The training to properly use them is rigorous. Only those who are hungry and thirsty for all God has for us will press through and persist to be seizing the things of the kingdom for the benefit of all. A lazy mindset that is afraid of what others think won’t get it. It takes an attitude of allegiance to the mission and seeking only God’s approval. The mission is to save souls by the power of God from damage and eternal loss.  As we receive and learn to work with God’s provisions, this can be effectively accomplished.
