Frogs in the Well

One of the things in my early life memories, is that we drew our water from an open well. We moved from Arkadelphia to Malvern for a summer. Then we moved to Poyen, AR. Dad bought sixty acres outside of Poyen that had a house on it that was in need of modernization, to say the least. It had a little bit of electricity, no indoor toilet, and when the wind blew, the wall paper that sagged off the walls and ceiling “breathed” in and out. But the fun part for me as a “young ‘un” was the well. You could get the light reflecting just right and see down into that well and see the frogs swimming around in the water. This was the water that we drew up in a bucket to drink and bathe in. The fun part was to see if you could maneuver the bucket just right to catch a frog. It never crossed my mind that the frogs might have made the water unfit for drinking. That’s just the way it was. Besides, back then, immune systems were strong, medicine was a last resort, and you certainly never went to the emergency room unless a bone was broken or you had a life-threatening condition of some sort. But that aside, the water was wet, we survived, and in time Dad tore the old house down and used the lumber to help build the new house. That is a story all in itself. The main thing I remember about the building of that new house was that Daddy installed 4 x 8 sheets of raw birch paneling throughout the house, of which every square inch had to be finished—sanded, sealed, sanded, sealed, and it had to be done Slim Calhoun right, so there was still another sanding and sealing. But, back to the well. Here’s the truth: If you’ve got frogs in the well, you’ll get frogs out of the well. Jesus said out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). Most of the time we don’t have to listen long before we can read our own or another person’s heart. From a negatively charged heart, you will hear negative. From a positively charged heart, you will hear positive. A heart that’s open for all kinds of junk, will produce all kinds of junk. A heart that feeds on the good, produces good. The good news of the Lord Jesus Christ has the power to change our heart. It doesn’t just fish the frogs out; it imparts to us a brand new well. If we are fishing frogs out, then we need a new well. There is only one source of a new well—total submission to and surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ. What He did for us is a free gift we receive by faith. He took a beating and a crucifixion to take our sins away and heal our sicknesses. Receive the new well with living water.
