Jesus stood and cried out…”If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me…out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7: 37-39
Now, Jesus is glorified. Now, the Spirit is given for all believers to allow to operate. Now, as we go to Jesus and drink in his life through hearing and believing the Word of God, then, we can yield to and move with the Spirit of God dwelling in us. Yielding to and moving with the Spirit of God allows him to operate, and when that occurs, good things happen!
Jesus is our prime example of yielding to and moving with the Spirit. When he moved with the Spirit, a river of healing flowed through him, healing all. A river of mercy and forgiveness washed hearers spiritually clean as they heard his words. A river of provision flooded on people so that twelve full baskets of leftovers were collected from the distribution of five loaves and two fishes. 5,000 men were filled, beside women and children, with multiplied food created by God. (Matthew 14: 17-21). God is not chintzy. He is the God of overflowing abundance. He just needs someone who will take him at his word and act on it!
Jesus is the Word (Revelation 19: 13). Faith comes by drinking in, by repeatedly hearing the Word until we believe it enough to act on it (Romans 10: 17). This is what the first followers did. They heard the Word daily and carried out assignments to act on the Word so they saw the Word in action. Then when Jesus departed and was glorified, the Spirit came on the expectant group with the same power as was on Jesus in his earthly walk. And the “rivers” continued to flow through the believers. It just takes someone who is thirsty enough to drink in the Word until the overflow splashes out of it’s banks onto all those around with saving, healing, delivering power! The Word, empowered by the Spirit, produces rivers of life that will flow out through you to heal the nations! (Revelation 22: 1,2). Jesus stands and cries out, “Be filled with Me, and let the rivers flow out of you to the nations and see the glory of God!” 3-5-15
