School is out. So, as we step outside the house, we see some children walking from the door of the fence on the back property line into the back yard. We had invited the neighbor kids to join in the church Easter egg hunt, and at that time, we also invited them to enjoy our back yard. They did not forget the invitation. Five of them, ages ranging from seven to thirteen, boys and girls, came to enjoy the swings, the creek, and the open space of the back yard. Their chit chat was lively, and I sat in the A-Frame bench swing, listening carefully to engage in conversation. Barb had an errand to run, but she was back soon. I was asked, “Mr. Jackie, what kind of work do you do?” I told them I was retired, but we were active in the ministry of sharing the good news of Jesus in the church and in the prisons. We talked about the baptism tank that is on my trailer, how I take the tank to the prison and baptize inmates who give their life to Jesus. The thirteen-year-old girl volunteered the information that she had not been baptized, but that she has been thinking about it. So, with that, I shared my personal testimony of how at a young age I walked a church isle, took the preacher by the hand, said yes to all the questions, was told I was saved, and they baptized me. But a year or two later, when I was praying before going to bed one night, I began to realize that I did not really have a connection with God. That brought my concern to tears, and in time, that night, I realized that Jesus died for me, and what He did for me is what makes me right with God. Also, in that moment of time, I surrendered my whole life to Him. I had peace. After that, all I wanted to do was tell the world about Jesus, and, I just couldn’t put the Bible down; I had a great hunger for reading the Word of God. In time, in understanding what He did for me, I was baptized the second time. Then, in time, I was filled with the Holy Spirit, which moved me into the realm of the supernatural, which magnified Jesus even more, and made me even more bold to share Jesus and the Word of God. The girl listened intently, soaking it all in with no response. I finished up by encouraging them all to be open to God and look to Jesus and give Him all of their life. Soon, the mother of some of the kids came over to get them ready for Vacation Bible School that evening. Salt preserves and purifies. Whether a hardened criminal in prison, or an innocent child having fun playing in the back yard, the testimony of the living person of Jesus, the Son of God, can transform a life.
