Here is a little handyman trick that can help the do-it-yourself remodeler do a top-notch job: When you pull boards or trim that are good boards that will be replaced when the project is put back together, leave a nail in the board as a guide to getting the board or trim right back in the same nail hole and spot where it was. Sometimes the project will lend itself to this and sometimes not, but if it does, that will help get things right back together the way they were before. In other words, if you get the first peg in the right hole, the rest will fall into place.
We are now in the season of New Year resolutions. There are seven realms of life: spirit, soul, body, family, financial, social, and eternal. It would do well for us to examine each area of our lives and formulate goals and resolutions that will help bring about the abundant life that is promised in the Word of God for every believer. I asked myself the question: If I had one resolution to make that would help bring about this abundant life that is available in the Lord, what would it be? I thought on it and I studied the Word to try to determine what this one goal and resolution would be.
What I saw was that Jesus was filled with and led by the Holy Spirit. With that he had total victory in life and in death. As I saw that God is a good God and wants good things for us, and the goal of the Holy Spirit is to guide us into all good things of God, then it just makes good common sense to have him as our daily guide for the demands of everyday life. Repeatedly Jesus taught this principle: by believing on the Lord and abiding in his love through his Word and Spirit, you can ask what you will and it shall be done unto you (John 14:13,14,21-23; 15:7-16; 16:23-27). Wow! If we are willing to get our life lined up to God’s heart of love and the mind of the Spirit, the sky is the limit! (1 John 4:11-13; 16-18).
So here is my grand conclusion. If I had only one goal and one resolution to make, it would be this: To be filled with and led by the Holy Spirit on a daily basis. If I get that one peg in the right hole, all the rest of my life will fall in proper place. The love of God is shed abroad in our heart by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Faith works by love (Galations 5:6). Faith can move mountains and do the impossible (Mark 9:23; 11:22-26). And love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8). For a top-notch living, we should resolve to be filled with and learn to be led by the Holy Spirit on a daily basis.
