1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3. And God said… (Genesis 1:1-3a). God spoke words by the Spirit.
1. In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. The same was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:1-5,14 (bold mine). The Word came to earth through flesh!
The Psalmist wrote in Psalms 116:10, “I believed, therefore have I spoken.” By doing a Genesis to Revelation study in the Bible on the subject of words, we find that words carry great power. We see that the expression of God’s love, faith and power comes through spoken words and actions.
The apostle Paul said that he “renounced” hidden works of darkness. He would “say off” and “disown” (Strong’s Concordance G550) the hidden things of dishonesty, craftiness, and deceit. He did this to walk with a clear conscience before God and man. He went on to say the god of this world has blinded people’s minds who believe not. For this reason, Paul would preach, he would speak words of the gospel, to pierce people’s darkness and cause them to see and be set free. 2 Corinthians 4:1-5; Acts 26:18
Paul makes reference back to the creation of how God created the earth (Genesis 1:3). We see here that God commands light to shine out of darkness by words spoken by the Spirit. God calls; He speaks those things that be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). Words spoken by the Spirit bring the knowledge of Jesus Christ, which brings the glory of God right into the darkness. This is the power of the gospel. The gospel preached, the gospel spoken, breaks the power of darkness in people’s lives, and in whole regions, and in societies, and in the earth, on a global scale. 2 Corinthians 4:6
Paul said, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you” (2 Corinthians 4:13-14 italics mine). We see here that by words spoken in faith; resurrection power is released. This is how the gospel changes lives. The word spoken with faith into dead human spirits infuses the eternal, resurrection life and Spirit of God into that human. The word spoken with faith into situations changes circumstances, hence, societies are changed.
Jesus said, “Have faith in God.” The margin in my Bible says “Have the faith of God.” This Greek meaning indicates that believers have been given the faith of God. The Bible says God’s righteousness is given to us. It also says God’s love is given to us by the Holy Spirit. We don’t need to think it strange that God’s faith is given to us, by which we are to live and operate. This is the faith of Jesus, the Son of God—Christ in you the hope of glory. Mark 11:22; 2 Corinthians 4:13; Romans 3:22; Galatians 2:20; Galatians 3:8—”faith of the Son of God” is unique to KJV
Jesus went on to teach that if a believer who has this faith of God will say to a mountain to be removed and cast into the sea, and will not doubt in his heart, but will believe that those things which he says shall come to pass; he will have whatsoever he says (Mark 11:22-24).
How can this be?
God is Spirit and believers are spirit, because believers are re-created into the image of God in their inner man. Just as God operates by speaking words, the believer operates by speaking words. What God says, comes to pass. When a believer is resting in the righteousness and finished work of Jesus Christ, and is resting in the ability and power of God to perform His word—when that believer speaks words by the Spirit of God, those words come to pass!
With the heart we believe unto righteousness, and with the mouth (speaking words) confession is made to salvation. Words spoken with faith bring salvation. The “word of faith which we preach” is that if we confess (speak) with our mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe that God raised Him from death, we shall be saved. We go from the destiny of eternal death in hell, to the eternal life from heaven by words spoken in faith! Romans 10:8-10
Alignment with the Word and Spirit of God brings life and liberty. When a believer in Jesus Christ speaks words in agreement with the Word of God by the operation of the Spirit of God, resurrection power is released! Those words release light and power into darkness for salvation and deliverance in every way! That is the liberating good news of Jesus Christ!
And there is more to the good news of Jesus.
The Biblical pattern is that Jesus Himself was filled with the Holy Spirit. This pattern is followed by believers in the book of Acts. Believers are to be filled with the Holy Spirit just like Jesus. We see in the Bible that God gives a supernatural language by which to speak, to believers who yield their lives unreservedly to be filled with His Spirit!Awesome! God knows the power of His words in our mouth. Mark 16:17; Acts 2:4; 8:16-17; 9:17; 10:46; 13:9-10; 19:6; Ephesians 5:18-20
Paul gives instruction that by the use of speaking this supernatural language, a believer speaks into the realm of darkness the things of God that are hidden to the natural man—the “mysteries” of God. Also, by speaking this language given by God, believers can build themselves up on their most holy faith (the faith of the Son of God), becoming strong in their spirit man. These believers can bless and worship God in spirit and in truth, giving thanks and praise to God “well,” with excellence. Paul spoke in tongues more than all the Corinthians. He knew that resurrection power was being released by the expression of the words of the Spirit of God coming through him. 1 Corinthians 14:2,4,15-18
Because Paul understood the power of words released, he determined to pray with his spirit man (praying in tongues), and pray with his understanding (in his known language), and he would sing with his spirit (in his tongues language), and he would sing with his understanding (in his known language). The river of God flowed freely through Paul.
Paul taught to pray without ceasing. Why? Because he knew the believer has power to release the light, life and power of God into people’s lives and into the atmosphere. He knew believers were ordained to destroy the works of darkness of the prince of the power of the air on a global scale— “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.” “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength…that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.” God’s words coming through the least believer in Christ, stops the enemy cold! Psalms 24:1; Psalms 8:2
Paul knew that we don’t wrestle with flesh and blood, but with unseen supernatural spiritual forces of darkness that hold people in sin, sickness, and Satanic oppression and bondage. Where sin and darkness abound, grace much more abounds. By speaking words by the Spirit of God, believers have the power to dismantle and destroy the works of darkness on the earth and set the captives free by the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. “We…believe, and therefore speak.” Ephesians 6:12; 2 Corinthians 4:13
This is why Paul, after telling of the armor of God for the believer, said “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:18; Jude 20). Prayer in the Spirit activates the spiritual armor. Waging a good warfare is not by just acknowledging and mentally “putting on” the different components of the armor. It is also by the believer releasing Spirit inspired words—praying in the Spirit. Words are the vehicle that carry and release the power of God in and through our lives. Words are the currency to spend and distribute on earth, what Christ has laid up for us in heaven.
Jesus taught that by our words we are justified—we are acquitted, made innocent and go free; and, by our words we are condemned—we are guilty and are held captive. He said we would give account for every idle word we speak. Every word we speak has consequences for good or evil for ourselves and for others. With words, we can make others mad, sad or glad. With words we can wound, and with words we can heal. Matthew 12:34-37
What better words to be speaking or singing, other than those words that are given by the Spirit of God? This is awesome. Absolutely awesome! We have the privilege of releasing words of God to usher in the glory of God. The King of glory rides in on the words and obedience of purified believers who are washed in the blood of Jesus! Psalms 24
When we know what to speak or pray, we are to speak or pray with simplicity, clarity and boldness— “as the oracles of God” (1 Peter 4:11). When we don’t know what to speak or pray, we can express God’s perfect will and desires by supernatural words as the Spirit gives utterance.
The Spirit Himself cannot express His groanings and desires in this earthly realm. But we are the vessels who carry this precious treasure. We are the ones who can give expression to the groanings of the Spirit at will. We are the vessels God has called and ordained to speak His words and bring about His works in this earthly realm— “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Romans 8:26-27; Matthew 6:10
By yielding to the Spirit and direction and power of God, all the bases are covered. By the words of God coming through a flesh vessel here on earth, the job gets done according to God’s will as it has been purposed in heaven before the foundation of the world. Awesome! Absolutely awesome!
We cast all crowns at His feet. All honor and glory go to Jesus Christ the Lord. He is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world; the Lion of the tribe of Judah; the King of Glory who fills the earth with His power and glory! Glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth. Good will to all people. Speak the words of God with all boldness! Hallelujah! See the glory of God manifest right here on earth!
